What Costumers Said About Magnavox 32MD359B/F7 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV-DVD Player

JAFFIER

I picked this up for my mother. She doesn't have a lot of space, but she needed something a little bigger then her old 15" LCD. The best thing about this LCD is that it is simple and easy to use. The buttons on the remote are well laid out and are logical. If you are just looking for a simple LCD, then this is it. If you care about audio quality, you need to hook it up to a separate receiver. So simplicity is the key work here.

Blu-ray Sony BDP-S560 1080p Disc Player

It also includes built-in wireless functionality (802.11N/G/B/A), allowing you to easily connect to the internet to download and stream BD-Live content such as additional scenes, shorts, trailers, movie-based games, and more. While compatible with most home wireless routers, the BDP-S560 Blu-ray Disc player also supports Wi-Fi protected set-up (WPS), for a quick and easy conection to WPS enabled wireless routers. The BDPS560 even supports Dolby TrueHD and dts-HD audio codecs for up to 7.1 channels of high-definition sound.

Blu-ray Sony BDP-S560 1080p Disc Player Key Features

tream Your Photos Wirelessly

The BDP-S560 features photo streaming functionality, which allows you wirelessly to stream digital photos from your PC or another Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) enabled device to your Blu-ray Disc player, so you can easily view photos on your HDTV.

DVD Upscaling via HDMI technology
DVD Upscaling via HDMI makes your existing standard DVDs look better on your HDTV by bringing them to near HD quality.

Dolby TrueHD and dts HD- 7.1 Analog
In the past, most audio codecs used compression that actually removes some sound data to transmit audio from the disc to the audio circuitry. This means that what you hear is a subset of the original audio. However, newer formats allow the audio to be compressed, but not discarded, allowing the original audio to come through once it has been decoded. This player allows you to stream the audio out via HDMI to a capable receiver or through analog 7.1 outputs for maximum compatibility with high end receivers.

Digital Photo Playback feature
Lets you enjoy your digital photos on your HDTV by inserting USB flash memory loaded with photos into the players' front USB port.

Quick Start Mode
Quick Start Mode lets you begin operating your Sony Blu-ray Disc player approximately six seconds from the time it's powered on.

BD-Live Technology
Allows you to download and stream bonus content such as additional scenes, shorts, trailers, movie-based games, and more. And with Bonus View, you can enjoy "picture-in-picture" capability with select Blu-ray titles. External memory is required (sold separately).

Ethernet port
Lets you connect the BDP-S360 to your home's existing broadband network to access bonus features on BD-Live enabled Blu-ray Disc movies.
Bonus View feature
Provides "picture-in-picture" capability with select Blu-ray Disc titles, which is useful for viewing director or actor commentary while the movie plays.

24p True Cinema technology
Lets you watch films at their intended 24 fps (frames per second), the way movies are shot and mastered, so you can enjoy cinematic picture quality.

Precision Cinema HD Upscale circuitry

Delivers accurate and vivid images with clarity and detail faithful to the source whether film or video (upscaled image quality will vary). This circuitry uses advanced conversion and processing to detect image changes at the pixel level, rather than at the level of whole scan lines. Separate algorithms are also used to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are free from motion artifacts.

x.v.Color output plays AVCHD
Format discs with support for the international xvYCC color standard, producing images with nearly twice as many viewable colors as the existing RGB color standard.

BRAVIA Sync technology
Lets you enjoy the convenience of one remote control to operate and control all your compatible home entertainment devices. It utilizes the HDMI CEC function to easily turn on and control your compatible HDMI-connected components without having to use multiple remote controls.

x.v.Color output plays AVCHD
Format discs with support for the international xvYCC color standard, producing images with nearly twice as many viewable colors as the existing RGB color standard.

SOUND DETAILS

This Sony BD player is compatible with Dolby TrueHD, Dolby’s next-generation lossless technology developed for high-definition disc-based media. Dolby TrueHD delivers tantalizing sound that is bit-for-bit identical to the studio master, unlocking the true high-definition entertainment experience on next-generation discs. When coupled with high-definition video, Dolby TrueHD offers an unprecedented home theater experience that lets you enjoy sound as stunning as the high-definition picture.

-Delivers studio-master-quality sound that unlocks the true high-definition entertainment experience on next-generation discs.

-Offers more discrete channels than ever before for impeccable surround sound.

-Compatible with the A/V receivers and home-theaters-in-a-box (HTIBs) of today and tomorrow.

XV COLOR
-Dialogue normalization maintains the same volume level when you change to other Dolby Digital and Dolby TrueHD programming.

-Dynamic range control (Night mode) enables you to customize audio playback to reduce peak volume levels (no loud surprises) while experiencing all the details in the soundtrack, enabling late-night viewing of high-energy surround sound without disturbing others.

Thanks to the adoption of a newly approved international color standard called xvYCC (an option in the HDMI v1.3 spec and which Sony participated in creating), the color space has been greatly expanded.

All Sony XBR HDTVs support the xvYCC color profile (Extended YCC Colorimetry for Video Applications), or "x.v. color" for short. Standard RGB color space allows the display of a portion of the colors that are viewable to the human eye. The next generation "xvYCC" color space actually offers an available range of colors that exceeds what human eyes can recognize.

-Lets HDTVs display colors more accurately
-Enables displays with more natural and vivid colors
-Next-generation "xvYCC" color space supports 1.8 times as many colors as existing HDTV signals

Xross Media Bar
Xross (pronounced Cross) is Sony's Technical-Emmy award-winning graphic user interface for Sony WEGA and BRAVIA televisions and PS3 and PSX game systems. The interface features category icons spread horizontally across the screen that organize the viewing options (TV, Music, Internet, Tools, etc...). When a category icon is selected on the horizontal bar, a vertical bar appears showing the viewing options within that category. Using the directional pad on your remote, you can easily maneuver horizontally from category to category, then scroll vertically through individual viewing options to easily navigate through the wide range of programming available on today's televisions.

WHAT COSTUMERS SAID ABOUT Blu-ray Sony BDP-S560 1080p Disc Player

CRISS
I purchased the Sony blu-ray BDP-S560 to replace a broken CD player AND a ten-year old DVD player as well as to upgrade to blu-ray and the ability to play SACDs. I also wanted to be able to view my digital pictures on my 55" Plasma (which my old DVD player couldn't do) and now I can via a DVD or a data stick in the front-panel USB port. The player does everything I was looking for and my first blu-ray movie (Master & Commander) looks great. I also find the user interface very friendly and simple to use. I recommend it.

BRODEY
The other 5 star reviews of the SONY BDP-S560 Blu-ray Disc player have many facts that I would only repeat here but simply five stars. The user friendly menu system automatically connected to my Apple wireless internet base station. The player checked for software updates and all was up to date. Cool! Also, the option "quick start" is fantastic. I hit play on the Disc player remote or the SONY TV remote and both the TV and player turn on to the HDMI input. Lights off dimmer function during playback is fantastic. This dims the display but during playback it turns it off. Making sure that "Fixed Aspect Ratio" is set in the DVD menu, the SONY BDP-S560 Blu-ray Disc player sets the picture to the SONY TV. ALL of my BD's and DVDs are pure to the screen and touchable. The up-conversion is awesome. Lastly, the Blu-ray picture is beyond beyond after adjusting the "Custom" picture setting on the SONY TV to: Backlight Minimum to Max (depending on room brightness), Picture Max, Brightness 46, Color 49, Hue 0, Color Temperature - Neutral, Sharpness - Max, Noise Reduction - Off, MPEG Noise Reduction - Off, Advanced Settings: Black Corrector - Medium, Advanced C.E. - Medium, Gamma - Medium, Clear White - Low, Live Color - Off, White Balance - Default. There are a lot of settings to deal with on these new Sony products. Take your time and work with the product's user friendly menus and WOW! I actually like my SONY DVD/CD players be 5 disc changers and to store information of previously played discs in the memory. Of course, this SONY BDP-S560 Blu-ray Disc player does not utilize these memory features. I purchased the Sony DVP-NC800H/B HDMI/CD Progressive Scan 5-Disc DVD Changer and the Monster Ultra 600 HDMI Video Cable - 4' for my multi-music listening and multi-DVD viewing.

SUNNYL
I ordered the BDP-S550 but Electronics Expo sent me this S560 one instead! The setup was quick and easy, I was able to watch blu ray movies in no time...It even played SD dvd movies better than my Panasonic S77. If the S550's made in Japan the S560's made in Malaysia, if it matters to some. No audio issue here, I have it connected to a non hdmi receiver and have it connected thru optical audio connection. I'm not gonna comment on the remote since I'm using a home theater master MX-500 one. I'm surprised to see that there are still some who are using the one that came with it...Go to ebay and get an all in one remote, you'll be glad you did. Monster cable(s) hdmi? Nope! I have been using monoprice cables for years now and I don't see any difference on the video/audio results.\

WILLIAM
There seems to be a lack of reviews online for the new Sony 560 and Panasonic 80 Blu-ray players. So I purchased both of these Blu-ray players from Amazon, mainly becuase I wanted to do a critical, side by side comparison of all features and the audio and video quality. It wasn't a professional test-based comparison, just flipping back and forth between these players and my Samsung BD-UP5000 Blu-ray/HD DVD player on my Sony 52" Bravia LCD and studying the image with a critical eye. (I got 3 copies of the Braveheart Blu-ray to do this). Here's what I discovered:

Video Quality: Pretty much a dead tie. Both players had rich, dark blacks. Video noise (smoothness) of the pictures was so close that I couldn't tell which I was watching most of the time. Sharpness was the same. Both pictures had good "3D pop". I wouldn't be surprised if both players used the same chipset. (By the way, the Samsung uses the Reon HQV chip, and while it looked a bit "smoother" by comparison, a tiny bit of the sharpness and detail shown on the Sony and Panasonic was missing on the Samsung. Also the Samsung has a very slight cyan cast to the blacks and the overall picture.)

Audio Quality: I think the Panasonic wins here, but only by a slim margin. Panasonic touts this player as a "high clarity audio" Blu-ray player and it does sound sweet through my Onkyo TS-SR805 receiver, on my Paradigm Monitor 11 speakers. Again, this conclusion is based only on the DolbyHD sountrack on the Braveheart Blu-ray. I'm going to do more serious listening, but I think the Panasonic will still prove better, audio-wise, with any source material.

Audio Formats: Both of these players will Bitstream or PCM output the new HD audio formats. This means that if your receiver doesn't decode them, the player will. Or vice-versa. Some people say pre-amps/receivers do a better job at decoding than BD players do, but I guess that depends on your gear. The Panasonic DMP-BD80 sure sounds good, and I couldn't hear a decoding difference between it or my receiver. With the Sony, I think the receiver may have sounded a touch better, but that might have been in my head.

Speed and Handling: No question about it, the Sony beats the Panasonic hands down. This new Panasonic is no faster than last year's model it replaced, the 55. Everything about the Panasonic is slow...load times, react times when buttons are pressed, or when skipping chapters. The Sony 560 is about the same as the PS3. Every cloud has a silver lining, and the Panasonic DOES give you time to make a cup of tea while your disc is loading! Another little thing about the Panasonic that I don't like is the size (width) of the disc tray...it's the same size or a hair bigger than the disc itself (instead of being smaller like most players) so it's very hard to grab the disc. This sounds like a little niggle, but try it and see. It will drive you nuts every time you try to remove a disc...you'll end up dropping them back onto the tray if you're not extremely careful.

Remote Controls: They're about the same...both very flimsy and cheaply made. Put a gun to my head and I'll say the Panasonic's remote is a little heavier and has larger buttons that are a little better laid out. The Sony 560 is drawing fire for this because it doesn't have an eject/drawer open button on the remote. This is a silly complaint...correct me if I'm wrong, but you almost have to be standing in front of the player to put a disc in or take a disc out anyway, right?!?!?! So what's the big deal about having to press the "open" button on the player? Serious remote-picky people have a Harmony remote anyway.

Other Convenience Features: Neither of these players has Netflix built in, I guess that's a big deal now. Unless they can steam full-quality 1080P (without pauses, subject to my ISP speed) I could care less about that. The reason I have 3 Blu-ray players is because I care about quality and I'm not too cheap to buy Blu-ray movies! The Panasonic has the Amazon/VieraCast and YouTube feature though. Again, I have no desire to see a rough, low-quality mpeg video shot by an idiot on a cell phone on my high def TV! Both of these players are BD 2.0 (BD Live) capable, but only the Sony has Wi-Fi built in. That's a nice feature because you don't have to run a CAT-5 cable from your router to your Blu-ray player. I think the 560 is the first stand alone BD player to have this (the PS3 had it all along). The Panasonic has 7.1 channel analog (RCA) audio outputs, important to people that have older receivers without HDMI. The Sony 560 dropped this feature that used to be on last year's 550 model. Most people have newer, HDMI capable receivers, so I see why they did it. (Sony also did it to make their step-up model, the BDPS1000ES seem more attractive. (That player is $699 and is basically a 560 with a handful of extra features added, like a headphone jack). The Panasonic has an SD card slot on the front, good if you want to view your pictures on your TV, and a USB jack. The Sony features two USB jacks, one on the front and one on the back.

Build Quality: About the same, maybe the Sony wins here by a hair. Both are smallish players, not very deep. The Sony is about 8/10's of an inch taller.

Conclusion: Overall I like the Sony better. It's wireless connectivity is a great feature, and Sony has a great history (with the PS3) of keeping the firmware updated, and this makes it easier. The Panasonic is a nice player, and has slightly better sound, but I'm sticking with the Sony. Anyone wanna buy a slightly used Panasonic DMP-BD80?

(By the way...I had no audio problems whatsoever with the Sony, like some other reviewers had. The Sony has a lot of audio output settings, and I still think some of them had them set wrong. That, or their other gear couldn't handle the output from the 560. I'm seeing a bunch of posts online recently about different TV's and receivers not being compatible or being able to handle certain audio signals, especially bitstream...if your gear doing the decoding doesn't have the "oomph" or processing power to decode it, it will choke and puke!)

WHAT COSTUMERS SAID ABOU THIS Toshiba 26LV610U 26-Inch 720p LCD TV with Built in DVD Player, Black?

DEAN
I just set up the TV in the bedroom. It was pure "plug and play." Actually the TV I have is the 26LV610K, which Toshiba sells for a MSRP of $20 more than the 610U. But the only difference I can see is slightly different outside bezel. The picture is excellent, maybe even too sharp in its standard setup. Color balance is excellent, reds are red (not orange or florescent), and has many available settings if it is not entirely to your liking. The DVD works just as well as a built-in should work. But the reason I am adding my review is that I have seen comments about the sound quality suggesting that at full gain it is still not loud enough unless you add external speakers. My set, as is, will drive you out of the room on full gain. So I cannot explain the other comments. It is a perfect choice for bedroom, kid's room, etc.

FRANZ
We bought this set over a year ago (i.e., out of warranty now) and it stopped working. It won't turn on and all that we get are three blinking yellow lights on the front. After this happened, I did a web search and found that this is a very common problem with Toshibas that usually occurs after the warranty period. And Toshiba will not help with this common problem. It will cost more to fix than the tv is worth, so we have to go buy another (not Toshiba) one. Also, the digital tuner frequently could not tune some digital channels after a while.

ANDREAS
This TV is very simple to use. Take it out of the box, turn it on, auto search channels, change picture mode to "Movie" and you have a decent TV. It sounds a little better than most HDTVs, but you buy an HDTV for the picture. If you want HDTV sound, you have to add a multi-speaker home theater system. The picture is good with "Movie" setting. Out of the box it resorts to "Sports" setting that is just awful. I even tried it with an HD football game and it blurred the grass. Picture suffers from some motion blur, but IMO all LCD TVs have motion blur. The remote is very intuitive - you can change aspect ratio on the fly. QAM tuner works well, so it plays nice with cable.

The DVD Player is what sets this combo TV apart from the pack. It upconverts DVDs and Divx beautifully. That's right it plays Divx!!! It also plays CDs, VCDs, Picture CDs, and multitrack WMA CDs.

This TV would be great for anyone building a home theater system in a confined space or confined budget. Thinking dorm room, first apartment situation. The built in DVD/CD player could be hooked to any home theater receiver with speakers via Digital Component Out.

NORMAN
I purchased this TV to replace a much smaller TV for the bedroom.

The picture quality and sound are about what I was expecting.
I am hard of hearing and have no problem in hearing the sound.
It is easy to plug in extra speakers to boost the sound and that
is what I have also done. I am getting sound from internal and ext.
speakers now. I don't expect theater sound, but with the extra spkrs.
(fairly cheap Altec Lansing), the sound is def. more than I need now.
The picture quality is better than most TV's of this type, but as
many have noted, it is far better when you are directly in front of
the TV and esp. not at an angle below the TV. I have manually tilted
the TV downward and the picture is much better now while lying in bed.

So.... even tho the sound was already good or better than most as is,
the sound is much more improved with the cheapie external speaker and
the picture quality problem has been solved. I do wish that Toshiba
had made the stand so it could be tilted w/o having to resort to manually
tilting it.

The built in DVD player seems to work OK. I have not used it much but
seems to function appropriately. Just played regular DVD's with it.
I did try to play some jpgs and it is one of the worst at doing that
I have used.... (comparing it to other DVD players much older). I
would have expected it to be superior in this area, but it is very
slow advancing from picture to picture. Nothing about this feature
(displaying jpg's) seems to be intuitive. Would be nice if there
would be a firmware update and fix this, but I doubt there will
be.

My worst grip is the remote. The features are labeled with lettering
that makes it very hard to find two of the most used features that I
use.... "picture size" (depending on air TV or DVD) and also the
"source" button. I use these often and am slowly learning where to
find them, but it is aggravating to have to spend time looking for them.
I am considering getting a marker or something to physically label
these two buttons.

All in all, it is a good TV and I believe I would buy it again even
tho I usually prefer the Sony brand which we have in the den.

Toshiba 19LV610U
Received this nice looking Toshiba 19LV610U 19-Inch 720p LCD TV with Built in DVD Player,Black and had to return it. WHAT COSTUMERS SAID ABOUT THIS Toshiba 19LV610U 720p LCD TV

MICKEY

Recently, I have relocated and that was the perfect reason to purchase my first flat screen TV. I picked this device from Best Buy because I could order it online and pick it up myself in a local store in order to avoid high shipping fees. I must admit, I am watching my expenses so I do not have cable at the moment. Instead, I have purchased a little antenna and rely on public TV programming. The beauty of the product is that when there are no programs on public TV I want to watch, there is a built in DVD that I utilize and watch the movies I usually pick up from the local library for no charge.

Now if that is not enough, note that this TV allows you to plug in cable to your laptop computer and you can use it as a computer screen. Picture is crystal clear, bur reviewers before me are right -- volume can sometime be tricky. So if you are listening to your favorite piece of music, or book on tape, make sure you are close by, or you may miss some of the words.

The other beautiful part of the system is that it can be used on a desktop or it can be mounted on a wall. Either way assembly is very easy to follow from Toshiba's comprehensive user manual that comes with purchase. For me, this is a combo made in heaven and I am quite happy about my purchase. On my wish list - buy another Toshiba flat screen, only this ime larger in size.

ALI MUHAMMAD

Things I love about this TV:

It's extremely portable. I moved recently and don't know how long I'll be in my new apartment, so this TV/DVD combo was exactly what I was looking for.

The DVD/TV combination is very convenient and saves space!

For the price, this is a great deal, especially since Toshiba is a trustworthy brand in electronics.

Things I don't love:

Unlike other reviews, I haven't had an issue with my set not having enough volume, but I've noticed that when I put in a DVD, the volume automatically lowers control about 10 notches.

The TV's control buttons are on the side of the TV, which makes them hard to read sometimes to find out which button is which. I usually use a remote, but I have a habit of losing it around the apartment, so it would be nice if the TV's controls were in the front.

There's some noticeable lag time between changing channels and turning on the TV. This doesn't bother me so much, but it's worth mentioning.

Also, every time you insert a DVD, you have to readjust the screen width. I have my TV permanently set on one of the theatre widescreen settings, and every time I put in a DVD it goes back to fullscreen.

PHILLIPS
Color & picture outstanding. No problem with sound. My hearing is 20-20. Got mine from Costco for a little more only because of their return policy.
Worried about users' concerns but Toshiba quality is rather VG. Replaced my older Toshiba 20 with DVD. What a difference!!!!!
Perfect Kitchen TV!

WHAT COSTUMERS SAID ABOUT Toshiba 15LV506 LCD TV with Built in DVD

RICHARD NICHAMIN

I was looking for a small white TV for the kitchen and found this one. We hooked it up to our cable. When I turned it on the picture was fuzzy, even on the digital channels that are usually HD, so at first I thought I had received a model that wasn't HD. However, I found that there is a setting called "video label" that wasn't turned on to HD as the default setting. Once I set it for HDTV for cable, then I started receiving an HD picture on the digital channels. Even the channels that are analog and not HD look fine now. I also had to change the default color scheme from cool to warm to get the perfect coloring for faces. Now the picture is great! It's the perfect size for the kitchen. You do need to place it away from the stove and the sink.

TAYLOR EDGE
We got our first hdtv - Samsung- last year after great reviews on this site. We still say "wow" when watching - great color and clarity.

To replace our small kitchen tv we purchased this one. Didn't need the built-in DVD but got it with the set. I used it once and it worked well. May use it every once in a while. This tv works great and takes up less room on counter than I thought. We say "wow" when watching it too.

What I don't like is the inch long light under the screen, blue, when the set is on, red when it is not. What a waste of energy and it is annoying. If someone knows how I can turn that off let me know please. (No, tape is not an option.) It is bright enough to be a night light.

Also, the delay in switching channels is really long. Our Samsung is slow but this is crazy slow.

We live in the country and have been using rabbit ears for 20+ years. The new RCA atennas work well for us here. The one we use with this is a very light weight plastic that is on the wall behind the set. We continue to save lots of money by not subscribing to a service.

We are pleased with this tv. And would recommend.

We are grateful to the reviewers on this site for their honest opinions. Thanks to all of you.

The 15" Toshiba was perfect for the space in our kitchen, and it was the only reputable set that came in white (a requirement of the one who must be feared). Set up was easy and the picture is sharp straight on. Looking at an extreme angle is a problem with all LCD pictures. The DVD player is simple to operate, but the remote has numerous functions that require going back to the manual because they're not often used.

I ordered this TV for my wife to replace the old analog TV we had in our kitchen. Simply put, this is a superior product. We use rabbit ears to pull in the HDTV signal off the air and are very pleased that the signal to noise ratio is sufficient to eliminate almost all latency problems (packet delay) on all but the worst channels.

Toshiba 19AV600U 720p Portable LCD HDTV

Toshiba 19AV600U
I compared the picture quality of the Toshiba 19AV600U 720p Portable LCD HDTV side by side with Samsung (at our local Best Buy) after tweaking both to their maximum quality and the Toshiba had truer colors with accurate flesh tones, probably due to the 10 bit color. The sound was also much better (and louder) than other TV's of the same size. If you can live without the headphone jack, then this will be a great choice, especially for a small bedroom or kitchen.

One more thing that impressed me and my daughter was how the TV cleaned up the standard analog cable channels, apparently due to the noise reduction feature, which we put on high. Some of the channels even look as good as digital or HD. The 19AV600U also has HDMI jacks and is a great looking little TV even when it's off. We mostly buy SONY but was settling for Samsung (since Sony is not that impressive in this size range) until I ran across this little jewel.

WHAT COSTUMERS SAID ABOUT Toshiba 19AV600U 720p Portable LCD HDTV

KIKAIJU
After shopping all over the net and all the major retail chains, I was never able to find a small, affordable LCD for a bedroom. Everybody had 42" sets for $500, nobody had anything decent for around $200. Finally ended up at a regional electronics chain where I found this gem buried in the back with Coby, Viore and other junk brands. This Toshiba was the best by far, rivaling much larger sets. In the end, I had to choose between this Toshiba and a similar Philips. What made the deal was the complete range of inputs on the Toshiba: S-video (a must for me), VGA, two sets each of HDMI, and component, and 1 composite for games or whatnot. Many lower-end sets sacrifice some or all of these inputs meaning you'll have to go swapping plugs all the time. This Toshiba has it all covered.

Setup was easy. The stand pops down and has a slide lock. Plug in the power (two-prong plug) and video source and go. After letting it warm up, picture quality out of the box was very good. The brightness was a touch high but that's normal for a new TV. It found all the local HDTV channels very quickly (something my old HDTV converter could never get the same twice) and properly labeled all of them. A basic thing but important. OTA picture is great, very solid and clear. 1080i signals look great even with down-conversion. Connected to my satellite box over the S-video, the picture is sharp and bright and looks as good as I have ever seen it. The set appears to handle legacy 480i signals just fine which is more important to me than HD performance.

Connected to a Wii over component video, the 480p signal looks as good as the Wii can. Not pushing the set very hard here. Have not tested the HDMI connection since I don't have any HDMI devices. Also have not tried out the PC VGA connection.

Sound-wise, it does sound tinny as other reviews have said, which is why I only gave it four stars. But the set does have an optical out feed for use with a stereo system, and RCA audio out as well. Lots of ways to run the sound through something better. I am sort of glad the set is more concerned with picture than sound. Toshiba seems to have thought this way on purpose: you can totally disable the TV's internal speakers via the audio menu. That said, the speakers are fine for everyday use. Most people can live with them just the way they are if they turn the bass up to full.

The remote is functional and decently laid-out. The only notable thing is that you have to use the input button to switch inputs. Many TVs let you use the channel up/down buttons for this. Not Toshiba. The remote will control a Toshiba DVD player if you happen to have one. My Tivo was able to adopt the Toshiba remote codes on the first try.

For me, one test of how well a product works is how far into it I can get before looking at the manual. Most men are probably like this. Happily, I have not yet needed the book. The setup menus are intuitive and clear and simple.

Conclusion: an excellent choice for a kitchen or bedroom or anyone on a budget. The value for the price is outstanding and there are very few compromises. Highly recommended.

JOHNSON
Just picked this up at Best Buy for around $225 (only because I happened to need it quickly one night) and I have been very impressed so far. The picture - both with an over the air antenna and with an upscaling DVD player with an HDMI connection - has been incredible. When you look at these sets up close in the store, they look a bit grainy. But when you're at the proper viewing distance (6-8 feet in this case), they look razor sharp as they should. I've been amazed at the quality, and glad I waited for this one to come down in price and relied on the earlier reviews here and elsewhere.

Sound is good enough, though if you put in a CD in your DVD player to listen to through the TV you will definitely notice it's not as good as even a small stereo. Other reviews suggest this is as good as it gets. There are no volume problems though - I had considered getting the TV/DVD combo version of this, but some of the reviews suggested there were problems with the volume when playing DVDs. This one has no issues like that when hooked up to a DVD player. Most things I watch at quarter to half volume, so no worries about not being able to hear it.

All in all, an excellent purchase, especially given the price. I've only had it a few weeks - if I'd had it longer I'd give it 5 stars.

VILLA
Only time will tell if this TV will last but I recieved it just several days after I ordered it for my elderly mother who wanted to replace an old TV in her bedroom. For now the unit will only be used as a regular television with nothing else attached to it.
The TV was super simple to setup. The colors are great and it is meant to be watched from at least 5 feet away I would say and you will see a clear picture. Mom will be watching it from about 8 feet away.
I was concerned about the other reviewers' issues with the attached stand but mine only had plastic wrap which I easily removed. You then rotate the stand to its proper position manually. There is a switch that you will see once you rotate the stand, to 'Lock' or 'Unlock'
My TV also came with a comprehensive manual and the box itself had illustrations for the basic unpacking of the unit including the rotation of the stand.

GORDON
I have Comcast cable in Mass., and like another reviewer I was surprised how many channels including HD it picked up during channel search. More than any other TV or VCR in the house without a digital cable box.
Small TVs often have trouble fitting speaker systems into the available space, but this one is fine. I have it in my bedroom and have not put the sound higher than 30% from the lowest setting, even when doing tasks like folding clothes and watching while my son uses the main TV for video games 20 feet away.
Maybe more of an issue with my cable carrier than the TV, I have 2 or 3 locations for each channel, a regular a digital, and in some cases an HD. So I have to remove a lot of channels from the active list. The 'regular' ones have their titles like 'Bravo' and "TNT" but I have to add those names to the digital stations which are on some odd number like 75-2 but are the ones I want to keep.
The TV permits custom labeling so I can add CH 55 for name of channel, I just wish the click to remove unwanted channels from the lineup was in the same menu as naming a channel, so I could make my lineup short and descriptive easily.
It also permits a small menu of favorites, but the Fav key doesn't toggle thru the list; one has to move one's hand from the Fav button to the arrow buttons surrounding the circle.
Laying in bed in the dark it would be handy to toggle thru 10 or 15 Fav channels by pressing one button over and over rather than blindly hunt for the arrow keys after hitting the Fav button, which times out before a newbie like me can find the right arrow. Maybe I'll get faster.
I too viewed several TVs at Best Buy prior to buying, and this one had better detail and color rendition than most of the others. I'm going to wall mount it one of these days. It is made with metric screw threads all over, but the TV comes with 4 screws in the mount holes because most US homes don't have a stash of metric screws, a very customer-friendly thing to do.

HELLEN
We purchased this combination TV and DVD player for our 17' Casita travel trailer. So far, we've only used it in the DVD mode since we camped in remote sites where we do not get TV signals (we do not have satellite capability with our trailer...so unless there is a cable hookup where we camp, the DVD player is our main use). We DID try out the TV with our cable connection in the house before placing it in the trailer and we were happy with the picture and sound it produced. As far as the trailer, we particularly like this 15.6" set because it draws a mere 30 watts which is less than 1/2 the power of the prior 13" LCD set we used with a separate DVD player. We like the widescreen since this is the mode most often used on DVDs produced now and by using less watts, we can watch more movies without using up our battery power and having to recharge with the generator.

ROBERT WILLIAM

TV is very light weight, so easy for my wife to move from room to room. We are taking it on a road trip today to use as our portable DVD player. Picture clarity is excellent.

LEE JOHNSON
This LCD TV/DVD combination is perfect for the kitchen counter. All features including TV resolution, DVD picture and sound quality and CD sound checked out as excellent. The only minor complaint is when pressing a selection with the remote resting on a surface, rather than being held in the hand, the unbalanced design of the remote tends to allow it to tip over to one side. I highly recommend this product for the compact design and versatility of features.

My wife and I choose to get our TV signals over the air with an antenna. So, with the looming switch to digital-only broadcasting, I decided to simply replace an analog Sharp Aquos 13" set with a new, widescreen model. After much research, I chose the Toshiba. I've had some experience with Toshiba products and have no complaints. I wanted a 'brand name' set for reliability concerns.

We've had it for just less than a month and are generally pleased with the set. The move to a digital signal has resulted in a much improved picture over our older Sharp analog LCD. The viewing angle is good, which is important to us as we use this TV on our kitchen table and we sit on opposite sides.

As others have mentioned, channel switching is a bit slow, the set does not swivel vertically and I wish the remote had direct input for a few favorite channels. We have not tried the DVD player and don't plan on much use of this feature.

Amazon shipped this item promptly and we were pleased with the price.

If you're in the market for a smaller size widescreen TV, I can recommend the Toshiba.

COLLONA
If you are looking for a very small LCD TV, this is a nice product. If you have room for a 19", by all means I would go for the larger screen. Keep in mind that, even with the abundance of digital and high def signals out there today, many channels/programs will be broadcast in 4:3 format. Since this TV is a 16:9 profile screen, a 4:3 display will appear that much smaller on this 15.6" screen.

However, if you have a tight space, like on a kitchen counter under cabinets, this TV is perfect. It included a built in DVD player, which is a nice perk. The picture is vivid and HD display on it is excellent. At this size there is absolutely no reason to go for 1080p. For a 15.6" screen, or even a 19", 720p is fine.

At this screen size, Toshiba's competition tends to be "store brands" or no-name brands. This is the lone high quality name brand TV in this class (size).

What included in the box:
-15.6" (measured diagonally) flat screen TV.
-Attached stand.
-Remote control.
- Power cable.

The TV comes with a QAM tuner so you can pull any unscrambled analog and digital TV signals from your cable company. The TV accepts coax and ColorStream component connections.

PROs:
* Vivid picture
* Fully adjustable backlight and picture format, as well as all the usuals (brightness, contrast, audio, etc.).
* Excellent sound.
* Matte finish screen reduces glare so screen is viewable in bright and low light situations.

CONs:
* Tuner is fairly slow when switching stations.
* Stand is not adjustable for different angles or height.

Overall, this is a nice TV for the price and has many of the functions you'd want. An adjustable stand would be nice but at this size its not a necessity. I'm not sure why the tuner lags as much as it does, taking approximately 2-4 seconds in between channels. If you channel-surf often, this will annoy you.

I would have rated this a 5 had it not been for the slow tuner.
